Women, In Their Own Words: April Littmann
DesignDash: If you could listen to only one musical artist while working, who would it be and why?
April Littmann: Morgan Wallen all day! Being a small-town girl myself, his music really speaks to me.
DD: What’s the most unusual source of inspiration you’ve found for your work?
AL: The Selling Sunset show. After a long day, my husband and I love watching it for the fabulous homes that are toured. We don’t necessarily love all the drama of the show but find ourselves pausing throughout and talking about the architectural details of each home that is toured. It’s fun!
DD: If you could collaborate with any historical figure, who would it be and what would you create together?

AL: Honestly, I would choose Jesus. Not just as a religious figure, but as someone who fully understood the human experience. If I could collaborate with Him, I’d want to create a space that truly reflects a home designed for restoration, hospitality, and serving our neighbor.
DD: Do you have a must-do creative ritual before starting a project?
AL: Pray! I always pray for the family we are designing for—that we may serve them well and bring the project to life to fulfill the clients’ greatest dreams for their home.
DD: If your creative work were a color palette, which colors would be essential?
AL: Warm neutrals mixed with rusty terracotta. Plus, the occasional accent of deep navy, earthy green, or burgundy.

DD: How do you manage the business side of being a creative?
AL: I didn’t know much about running a business when my husband and I started Neighbor Interiors almost 8 years ago. I’ve learned to love the business side of things and sometimes crave it more than the creative side. I think that’s because I have a life-long passion for learning.
DD: If you could only use three tools or materials for the rest of your career, what would they be?
AL: AutoCAD, PowerPoint, and Performance Fabrics!
DD: How has your creative process evolved over the years?
AL: It used to always start with the rug as the inspiration for a color palette. Now, we begin projects with a detailed mood board that builds through the selection process. It’s fun watching the project evolve and shift with our clients’ wants and needs.

DD: What’s one piece of advice you wish you’d known when you started your career?
AL: Give yourself grace!
DD: Have you seen the landscape change for women in the creative industry? What still needs to change?
AL: Absolutely! The landscape has shifted since I started in 2010. There’s been a noticeable increase in visibility and recognition for women in leadership roles within the creative industry. More women are launching their own firms, leading major projects, and taking up space in areas that were once more male-dominated. I think at times when working with other men or trades within the industry, female designers can get a bad rap. I think we all need to work together to elevate the industry to overcome some of those negative stereotypes.

DD: How has being a woman shaped your creative vision or business approach?
AL: As a working mom, it’s taught me to be incredibly intentional. It made me more creative, more resilient, and more resourceful. I design spaces that are not only elevated and luxurious, but that work to support connection, calm, and real life. In business, I have learned empathy towards our team members, and I think that comes from being a mom and having an innate sense of care.
DD: What’s next for you creatively? Any exciting projects or collaborations?
AL: Yes! We are nearing the end of a two-year remodel on a 10,000-square-foot home. It’s an amazing project with no detail left unturned and I cannot wait to share the photos! We’re also wrapping up two large new construction custom homes, and are so excited for our clients to finally move in.

We’ll also be featuring April’s Organic Modern project in the upcoming Spring/Summer issue of The DesignDash Magazine. Nestled on sprawling acreage in Grapevine, this full-home design embraces earthy textures and organic warmth. With panoramic views, custom furnishings, and thoughtful layers of light, this home embodies Neighbor Interiors’ signature: timeless, luxurious, and livable.
