If your calendar still has space between now and October for a few design-focused events, you won’t want to miss these! Several international design and architecture events have already announced 2026 dates, themes, venues, or programming details for the summer. The list we’ve curated below focuses on events connected to architecture, interiors, furniture, materials, creative direction, craft, urbanism, and design culture.

Because several programs are still being announced, some events have more detail available than others. Dates, venues, and programming can still change, so confirm travel plans directly with each hosting association before booking flights or hotels for these events.

Eight Summer Design and Architecture Events Happening in 2026

#1 UIA World Congress of Architects 2026

June 28th through July 2nd in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain

The UIA World Congress of Architects 2026 is organized around the theme Becoming: Architectures for a Planet in Transition. The congress is structured around six thematic tracks: Becoming More-than-human, Becoming Circular, Becoming Embodied, Becoming Interdependent, Becoming Hyper-conscious, and Becoming Attuned. Those tracks examine architecture’s relationship to environmental, social, political, cultural, and material change.

The 2026 congress is expected to bring together more than 10,000 participants and 250 speakers. Programming includes more than 100 sessions across eight stages, a 4,000-square-meter central exhibition, and more than 70 architectural itineraries throughout Barcelona and its metropolitan area. Barcelona will also be the UNESCO-UIA World Capital of Architecture through the entire year of 2026, so the congress connects to a broader yearlong architecture program in the city.

#2 Architects, Not Architecture Barcelona 2026

July 2nd in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain

Architects, Not Architecture will host its Barcelona 2026 edition on July 2nd at the Auditorium of La Pedrera, Casa Milà. The announced speakers are Winy Maas, Xu Tiantian, and Arno Brandlhuber. The event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and is aligned with the UIA World Congress of Architects and Barcelona’s 2026 World Capital of Architecture programming. It’s actually the closing event of UIA.

The format differs from a standard project lecture. Architects, Not Architecture asks speakers to discuss personal experiences, professional development, career decisions, failures, and formative moments rather than presenting a portfolio of completed work. The Barcelona edition also centers on architects whose work engages with reuse and transformation of existing buildings.

#3 Helsinki Design Week

August 28th through September 6th in Helsinki, Finland

Helsinki Design Week 2026 is scheduled from August 28th through September 6th. The 2026 theme is The Oncoming Other. Announced programming includes Children’s Design Week from August 29th through August 30th, Shopping Design Market from August 29th through August 30th, Design Diplomacy from September 2nd through September 4th, and Open Studios from August 28th through September 4th.

The event calendar includes architecture, interior design, design education, digital design, fashion and textile design, graphic design, industrial design, new materials, and urban planning. Helsinki Design Week is one of the largest design festivals in the Nordic region and operates through citywide programming rather than a single convention format. This year’s focus is especially fitting for that format, given that The Oncoming Other will examine how we encounter each other (both planned and at random) in urban environments.

#4 Forward Festival Berlin

August 27th through August 28th in Berlin, Germany

Forward Festival Berlin 2026 will take place August 27th and 28th at Haus der Kulturen der Welt. The festival is built for creative industries rather than architecture alone. Its 2026 program includes two days, three stages, and more than 50 talks from speakers working across design, art, motion, typography, illustration, creative technology, CGI, photography, and creative business.

Announced participants include Stefan Sagmeister, Anton & Irene, Gab Bois, FutureDeluxe, Dinamo Typefaces, Gemma O’Brien, EY Doberman, Vera van de Seyp, Rocani, Allan Dransfield, NotReal, Eray Basar, HFA-Studio, Supersense, and the thing Magazine. The program also includes workshops, interactive sessions, studio tours, an AI film competition, an expo area, opening and closing events, and networking programming.

#5 Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale

June 7th through August 30th in Fiskars, Uusimaa, Finland

Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale runs from June 7th through August 30th, 2026, with exhibitions open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The 2026 biennale brings contemporary art, design, architecture, craft, and science into the historic Fiskars village. Its program includes two main exhibitions, environmental artworks, dance and performance pieces, workshops, and discussion events.

The two main exhibitions share the 2026 theme of water. Sense of Water, produced by Luovi and curated by artist-researcher Riikka Latva-Somppi, explores relationships among water, knowledge, emotion, and action. The exhibition includes work addressing water care and the impact of plastics on waterways. Dew, produced by Onoma, is curated and designed by Marco Casagrande and examines the water cycle through works installed in the Copper Smithy and surrounding area.

#6 London Design Festival

September 12th through September 20th in London, England, United Kingdom

London Design Festival will return for its 24th edition from September 12th through September 20th, 2026. The full 2026 program is still developing, but the festival has opened partner participation for exhibitions, installations, product launches, workshops, open studios, guided tours, talks, webinars, and related programming.

The festival’s listed 2026 program categories include Global Design Forum, LDF Projects, and the Partner Programme. London Design Festival typically operates through a citywide model, with events distributed across districts, museums, showrooms, studios, cultural venues, and public spaces. Designers, brands, studios, and institutions use the festival to present new collections, installations, public programs, and design research to local and international audiences.

#7 Oslo Architecture Triennale

Opening September 17th in Oslo, Norway

The 9th edition of the Oslo Architecture Triennale opens September 17th, 2026, under the title What if Nature Comes First? Published program materials indicate that the triennale will take place at Sofienberg Church in Oslo. The event is part of the Nordic architecture calendar and is organized around exhibitions, conferences, conversations, open calls, publications, and public programming.

One announced related program is What if Waste, an experimental essay initiative developed with Metode. The call asks participants to explore waste as a material, spatial, cultural, and conceptual condition in architecture and design. Participants will develop essays through a nine-month process involving writing, peer review, and workshops, with the work connected to the 2026 exhibition and program.

#8 Lake Como Design Festival

September 12th through September 20th in Como, Lombardy, Italy

Who wouldn’t want to finish out the summer with a trip to Lake Como? Lake Como Design Festival returns for its eighth edition from September 12th through September 20th, 2026. The theme is Confine, or Border. The festival frames the boundary as a line of separation and as a place of contact, exchange, tension, and transformation.

The 2026 program includes exhibitions, installations, talks, and the Contemporary Design Selection. The Contemporary Design Selection will be exhibited in Como from September 12th through September 20th in a group exhibition curated by Giovanna Massoni and directed by Francesca Prandelli. Villa Saporiti, a restored late eighteenth-century lakeside residence, is joining the festival program in 2026 and will host the Contemporary Design Selection for the first time.

A Final Scheduling Note

Several of these events overlap or occur in close succession. Forward Festival Berlin takes place immediately before Helsinki Design Week begins. London Design Festival and Lake Como Design Festival run during the same dates, from September 12th through September 20th. Oslo Architecture Triennale opens while both London and Lake Como are underway.

Barcelona is the clearest early-summer pairing because Architects, Not Architecture takes place on July 2nd during the final day of the UIA World Congress of Architects. Fiskars and Helsinki could also be combined within one Finland trip because Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale closes on August 30th and Helsinki Design Week runs through September 6th.
