7 International Design Events to Consider if Traveling in October 2026

From Design Week Mexico and Dutch Design Week to Decorex, Design Miami Paris, and DESIGNART TOKYO, October gives designers plenty of reasons to travel. In a few short weeks, major events all over the world. Some are trade fairs built around sourcing furniture, lighting, textiles, and contract products. Others spread exhibitions across museums, galleries, studios, shops, and temporary spaces throughout a city.

We narrowed the calendar down to seven events that are especially relevant to people working across interiors, architecture, furniture, art, and product design. Several have already announced detailed 2026 programs, while others are still adding exhibitors, speakers, and special projects before October.

#1 Design Week Mexico

Dates: October 5 through 11, 2026
Location: Mexico City, Mexico

Design Week Mexico returns for its 18th edition from October 5 through 11, with programming devoted to design, architecture, craft, and art-object. The main festival lasts one week, though several exhibitions that open during those dates continue into November or January.

One program we’ll be watching is Visión y Tradición, which pairs contemporary designers with Mexican master artisans through collaborative residencies. Chile is the invited country for 2026, and the finished work will be exhibited at the National Museum of Anthropology.

Design House opens October 9 and brings architecture and interior design studios together inside a residential setting with furniture, lighting, art, finishes, galleries, and craftspeople. Inédito, which focuses on new Mexican utilitarian design and material research, opens October 10 at Espacio CDMX.

The weekend also includes Diseño Contenido on October 10 and 11 at Parque Lincoln in Polanco. Participating studios and brands turn shipping containers into compact exhibition spaces for furniture, lighting, objects, and limited-edition work. It is an easy addition for anyone already spending the weekend in Mexico City for Design Week.

#2 DesignBlok

Dates: October 6 through 11, 2026; public festival October 7 through 11
Location: Prague, Czech Republic

DesignBlok’s 28th edition is organized around Light, both as a material component of architecture and design and as the central theme for this year’s exhibitions and conversations. Professionals’ Day takes place October 6, followed by the public program from October 7 through 11.

Major venues include the Trade Fair Palace at the National Gallery Prague, Prague Castle, the Museum of Decorative Arts, and the newly renovated Industrial Palace at Výstaviště Praha. Galleries and showrooms throughout Prague will participate as well, so visitors can split their time between the larger institutional exhibitions and smaller presentations around the city.

Lighting naturally has a major place in the 2026 program. An exhibition developed with the Museum of Decorative Arts examines Central European lamps from the 1950s through the 1980s. Designer Maxim Velčovský is creating a large-scale light installation for the Trade Fair Palace, while Czech lighting manufacturers and designers will present new work during the festival.

DesignBlok Talks also expands to two days on October 6 and 7. More than 40 Czech and international designers, architects, and experts are scheduled to participate. Confirmed names include Lee Broom, Daniel Rybakken, Laurids Gallée, Judith van Vliet, Lucie Koldová, Maxim Velčovský, and Dechem founders Michaela Tomišková and Jakub Janďourek.

#3 Decorex

Dates: October 11 through 14, 2026
Location: Olympia London, London, England

Decorex is probably the most straightforward sourcing trip on this list. The 2026 fair takes place at Olympia London from October 11 through 14 and expects more than 280 suppliers and makers, along with approximately 12,500 design professionals.

Furniture, fabrics, lighting, decorative craft, architectural details, rugs, finishes, and art are represented across the show floor. That concentration makes Decorex especially appealing to designers who want to spend several days comparing products and speaking directly with makers and manufacturers.

The Making Spaces program returns this year with live demonstrations from artisans working across different craft disciplines. Decorex is also planning Making Spaces workshops and a Design Talks series, though the complete speaker program hasn’t been announced yet. The Sustainability Space, developed with The Green Room, will focus on practical approaches to more sustainable interiors.

The 2026 exhibitor directory is already live and includes companies from the United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, Ireland, Czechia, and other countries. Trade tickets currently include access to all four days.

#4 Dutch Design Week

Dates: October 17 through 25, 2026
Location: Eindhoven, Netherlands

Dutch Design Week takes over Eindhoven for nine days from October 17 through 25. Approximately 100 locations participate throughout the city, and the event typically presents work from around 2,500 designers to roughly 350,000 visitors.

Exhibitions share the calendar with lectures, debates, networking programs, presentations, and awards. DDW gives substantial space to prototypes, experimental materials, research, technology, social design, and collaborations between designers and people working in science, policy, manufacturing, and other industries.

That focus makes Eindhoven particularly interesting if you want to see ideas earlier in their development. Visitors may encounter furniture concepts, new materials, manufacturing experiments, circular systems, and speculative projects beside commercially produced work.

The complete 2026 visitor program is still developing, so anyone considering Eindhoven should check the schedule again closer to October. With roughly 100 locations participating, a little advance planning will help once the individual exhibitions and talks are finalized.

#5 Design Miami Paris

Dates: October 20 through 25, 2026
Location: L’hôtel de Maisons, Paris, France

Design Miami returns to Paris for its fourth edition from October 20 through 25 at L’hôtel de Maisons, an 18th-century mansion at 51 Rue de l’Université in the Faubourg Saint-Germain. The fair focuses on historic and contemporary collectible design, with international galleries, designers, collectors, and cultural figures participating throughout the week.

The 2026 edition will include gallery presentations, large-scale Design at Large installations, partner projects, talks, and VIP programming. L’hôtel de Maisons gives the fair a very different setting from a conventional exhibition center. Furniture and objects are presented within the rooms and grounds of a historic residence, which gives visitors a chance to see collectible work in a more domestic context.

Design Miami Paris also overlaps with Art Basel Paris, which runs October 23 through 25 at the Grand Palais. More than 200 galleries are expected at Art Basel Paris this year, so anyone interested in both contemporary art and collectible furniture could reasonably build the two events into the same trip.

Paris will be exceptionally busy during those dates, though, so hotel reservations and tickets are worth sorting out well before October.

#6 ORGATEC

Dates: October 27 through 30, 2026
Location: Koelnmesse, Cologne, Germany

ORGATEC returns to Cologne from October 27 through 30. The biennial trade fair concentrates on workplace and contract interiors, with exhibitors across furniture, interior fittings, acoustic products, flooring, wallcoverings, lighting, media and conference technology, smart-office systems, greenery, art, and other products used in commercial projects.

The 2026 guiding theme is From rooms to relationships: designing spaces in an ever-changing world. Programming will examine collaboration, hybrid work, digital technology, and changing expectations around offices and shared commercial spaces.

The German Interior Business Association will also bring back its Wherever Whenever Work Culture Festival. Talks, panel discussions, workshops, installations, and exhibitions are divided among three tracks: Empowered Experience, Connected Cultures, and Radical Impact.

Designers who work on hospitality, offices, amenity spaces, and other commercial projects should find plenty here. Lighting, acoustics, furniture, wall treatments, technology, and flexible space planning also cross into residential work, so ORGATEC can still be relevant even when contract design isn’t the primary focus of a studio.

#7 DESIGNART TOKYO

Dates: October 30 through November 8, 2026
Location: Tokyo, Japan

DESIGNART TOKYO begins October 30 and continues through November 8, so it extends the October calendar well into the following month. The 2026 edition marks the festival’s 10th anniversary and uses the theme Hibiki, a Japanese word associated with resonance.

Exhibitions take place across Tokyo in shops, restaurants, galleries, museums, and dedicated event spaces. Participating areas include Ginza, the Tokyo Station area, Roppongi, Gaienmae, Omotesando, Harajuku, Daikanyama, and Ikejiri. Organizers expect approximately 250,000 visitors across the ten-day program.

DESIGNART brings art and design into the same festival, with projects across interiors, furniture, fashion, technology, food, craft, and contemporary art. Many pieces can also be purchased directly through their exhibition locations.

Tokyo requires a different type of planning than Decorex or ORGATEC because visitors aren’t heading to one convention center each morning. It makes more sense to group exhibitions by neighborhood, then spend a day in Omotesando and Harajuku or another in Ginza and the Tokyo Station area. Once the full 2026 program is published, those neighborhood groupings should be much easier to plan.

Planning an International Design Trip in October

It would be difficult to attend all seven events in a single month, but several combinations work surprisingly well. Design Week Mexico and DesignBlok overlap almost completely, so those require a choice. Decorex follows a few days later, while Dutch Design Week begins the next weekend.

Paris is particularly convenient later in the month because Design Miami and Art Basel Paris overlap. ORGATEC opens in Cologne immediately afterward, and DESIGNART TOKYO begins on October 30 for anyone with the time and appetite for one more flight.

The complete programs for several of these events are still developing, so speakers, exhibitions, and special installations may change before October. If you’re planning around a specific designer, showroom, or talk, check the organizer’s schedule again before booking the trip.
