Five Nordic Design Events Not to Miss in 2026

We tend to associate the Nordic design calendar with Copenhagen’s 3daysofdesign and Stockholm Design Week, but both took place much earlier this year. Thankfully, there’s still plenty ahead! Between late August and early October, Sweden, Finland, and Norway will host several major events devoted to interiors, furniture, contemporary craft, emerging designers, architecture, and materials.

A few dates overlap enough that one trip could cover more than one event, which is perfect if you’re from the States. Helsinki Design Week and Habitare run at the same time in early September, while Oslo Design Fair opens immediately beforehand. Stockholm has two very different events on either side of that group: Formex in late August and Stockholm Craft Week at the end of September.

Below are five Nordic design events we’ll be following through the rest of 2026.

Five Can’t-Miss Design Events Across Scandinavia This Fall

#1 Formex

Dates: August 25 through 27, 2026
Location: Stockholmsmässan, Stockholm, Sweden

Formex returns to Stockholm from August 25 through 27. Founded in 1960, the trade fair brings together buyers, interior designers, architects, producers, agents, wholesalers, and other professionals working across Nordic interiors and retail. Product categories include furniture, home accessories, textiles, gifts, craft, children’s products, fashion accessories, and other lifestyle goods.

One area worth visiting is Design Talents, which has introduced emerging designers at Formex since 2008. The August group includes designers working in furniture, lighting, ceramics, silver, textiles, storage, jewelry, and decorative objects. Väva will present handmade lamps, Helmer Design is bringing colorful furniture and lighting, and Bondeform specializes in ceramics and functional objects. A jury will select one participant for the Design Talents Best in Show award during the fair.

Formex is also working with Elin Frendberg on its seasonal trend presentation, and the stage program includes talks and presentations throughout the three days. Unlike a citywide festival, everything takes place at Stockholmsmässan in Älvsjö, so designers can spend the day sourcing without building an itinerary across Stockholm.

#2 Helsinki Design Week

Dates: August 28 through September 6, 2026
Location: Helsinki, Finland

Helsinki Design Week begins one day after Formex closes and continues through September 6. Founded in 2005, the festival describes itself as the largest design festival in the Nordic countries and typically includes around 150 events. The program covers interiors, architecture, industrial design, graphics, fashion and textiles, urban planning, digital design, and design education.

The 2026 theme is The Oncoming Other, which examines encounters between people in urban life. This year’s main program includes Open Studios, Design Market, Children’s Design Week, Helsinki Design Night, PechaKucha Night, and the tenth edition of Design Diplomacy. Design Diplomacy opens several ambassadors’ residences for conversations between designers from different countries, with registration beginning August 17.

Interior designers will also find several exhibitions worth adding to the calendar. Artek 2nd Cycle is presenting The Making of Modern Living, an exhibition that revisits the atmosphere of Artek’s first store from 1936. Elsewhere, Re-Think Re-Form examines contemporary design, art, craft, and material-based work. Open Studios takes visitors inside creative workplaces on August 28 and September 4.

#3 Oslo Design Fair

Dates: August 31 through September 2, 2026
Location: NOVA Spektrum, Lillestrøm, Norway

Oslo Design Fair runs from August 31 through September 2 at NOVA Spektrum in Lillestrøm. The fair describes itself as Norway’s largest purchasing fair for the design and interiors industry, with furniture and interiors among its eight principal categories. Fashion and accessories, retail solutions, paper and packaging, food, fragrance, and other retail categories are also represented.

The format is geared toward designers, retailers, and other professionals who want to see products in person and speak directly with brands. The current 2026 program also includes Brand New, an area dedicated to newer companies and emerging businesses. Exhibitor demonstrations and a professional program run alongside the sourcing floor.

The dates create an interesting possibility for anyone already planning a Nordic trip. Oslo Design Fair overlaps with Helsinki Design Week and closes on the first day of Habitare. A designer with enough time could start in Stockholm at Formex, continue to Oslo, and finish in Helsinki during the first week of September. The logistics would require some planning, admittedly, but the calendar lines up unusually well this year.

#4 Habitare

Dates: September 2 through 6, 2026
Location: Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre, Helsinki, Finland

Habitare begins September 2 while Helsinki Design Week is underway. The five-day event brings more than 500 companies and organizations to the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre and covers furniture, kitchens, lighting, textiles, surface materials, bathrooms, art, craft, antiques, vintage design, and other home and interior categories. The 2025 edition drew 43,000 visitors.

The 2026 theme is Plot Twists. Helsinki-based collective Minestrone Workshop is designing the theme exhibition as a workshop environment that focuses on materials, making, experimentation, and the unfinished stages of the design process. The nine-member group includes furniture designers, spatial designers, sculptors, and wood artists.

Habitare has already announced several speakers for 2026, including Danish graphic design studio All the Way to Paris, Kallesø Architects, Swedish designer and Hem founder Petrus Palmér, Finnish designer Erkka Hirvonen, and Serbian-born artist and designer Ana Kraš. The program also includes the Habitare Design Competition, developed with Aalto University, and a professional section called Habitare Pro.

The fair also extends into central Helsinki through Showrooms Habitare from September 2 through 6. Participating names include Artek, Carl Hansen & Søn, Marimekko, Bolon, Svensson, Lokal Helsinki, and several Finnish furniture, kitchen, textile, and materials companies. That makes it easier to combine the convention center with showroom visits and Helsinki Design Week events during the same trip.

#5 Stockholm Craft Week

Dates: September 30 through October 4, 2026
Location: Stockholm, Sweden

Stockholm Craft Week closes out this Nordic list from September 30 through October 4. Founded in 2019, it is Sweden’s largest event devoted to contemporary craft. Konsthantverkscentrum, Svensk Form, and Konsthantverkarna organize the week, with programming throughout the Stockholm region.

The participating work spans ceramics, glass, metal, textiles, paper, wood, jewelry, sculptural objects, and spatial installations. The current partner list includes galleries, museums, studios, schools, artist groups, and independent craftspeople, so visitors will encounter work in many smaller venues rather than one exhibition hall.

This year begins with Collaborating Craft, an international half-day conference at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern on September 30. Hosted by the team behind Konsthantverkspodden, the program examines collaboration and collective creative processes. Speakers include jeweler, journalist, and curator Sarah Rachel Brown; designer and researcher Lulu Harrison; Åsa Dybwad Norman and Ben Lignel; and ceramic artist Berenice Hernández.

Planning a Nordic Design Trip Before the End of 2026

The busiest stretch runs from August 25 through September 6. Formex, Helsinki Design Week, Oslo Design Fair, and Habitare all take place within less than two weeks, which gives designers several options without requiring a month-long trip. Stockholm Craft Week comes a few weeks later and has a much stronger focus on contemporary craft and independent makers.

There don’t seem to be comparable large Nordic interiors or furniture events confirmed for November and December at this point. Finland does have design-related exhibitions and programming later in the year, but the major fall fairs and festivals are concentrated in August, September, and early October.

If you’re an interior designer, we would pay especially close attention to Formex, Habitare, and Helsinki Design Week. Formex is the most sourcing-focused of the three, Habitare combines products with a substantial interiors program, and Helsinki Design Week expands the trip into studios, exhibitions, architecture, and cultural spaces throughout the city. With Habitare and Helsinki Design Week overlapping almost completely this year, Helsinki has an especially full calendar during the first week of September so do act fast!
